Jacob Kato has over 19 years’ experience in Information, Communication and Technology (ICT). Jacob is currently Managing Director at ITWS Specialists Uganda Limited and over views the company operations and different projects.
He also works as the Technical Specialists – System Development at the Regional Universities Forum for Capacity Building in Agriculture (RUFORUM), a Network of 170 Universities across 40 African Countries, he worked as Programme - IT Officer where he was responsible for developing online platforms that support the communication and dissemination such as websites, Blogs and social media. In addition, Jacob leads the management and maintenance of IT related equipment such as computers, laptops, photocopiers and printers. He has established strong working relation with service providers ensuring reliability and efficiency of IT services at the secretariat. In RUFORUM’s efforts to improve service delivery to the member universities, he has participated in developing the Online eLearning platform which hosts 34 courses.
He worked as network administrator at G4S Secure Uganda Limited, where he administered the company’s Local Area Network (LAN), Virtual Private Network (VPN), and Wide Area Network (WAN). remote installations, onsite and offsite backups for critical data, administered the cyberoam firewall, managed and monitored the Sage Pastel financial and VIP Payroll systems, and ensuring all ICT network devices are working well
Jacob worked with CompuScan as Senior Technical HelpDesk Consultant (2009 – 2010) where he provided technical support for the Financial Card Application/ Credit Reference Bureau (CRB) to Ugandan commercial banks, running the backups on the daily basis and ensuring that the servers are online all the time. He also provided email and telephone technical solutions to commercial banks and Microfinance users. In addition, he generated technical reports for all banks and escalate them to technical and software developers.
Jacob worked as Computer Technician at Faculty of Computing and IT. Makerere University (2006 -2009) and was responsible for installing and monitoring server’s performances of operating systems both windows and UNIX platforms. Also ensuring that all computers, switches, Phone systems, Access Points and Routers in the Faculty Labs and staff offices are functioning properly. He administered mailing systems for students, staff members and helped in providing technical advice in the times of procuring ICT equipment’s and software for the faculty.
